I thought it might be fun to take an indicative still from each scene and see what the color script for the film might have looked like if I had done one before shooting began.

Not sure what this “reverse-plotted color script” says, really! Jeff and I did have a lighting scheme printed out that incorporated color. I suppose that was the closest thing.

Sinking Dutchman’s Untitled Pale Ale will make its product-placement debut in The House That Jack Built. Industrial designer and beer-lover Mark Van Handel donated a bottle of his micro-micro brew to the film. I wanted to avoid using any brand you could actually find in a store, and Mark just so happened to have brewed his own recently. Thanks, Mark!

Well, just about ten hours away from the first shot of principal photography! Today, a tiny bottle arrived in the mail, direct from LA-LA California, and the mysterious The Everyman Pharmacies. A prescription of boosters filled with tiny strips of paper. The strips deliver such sage advice as “What would Scorsese do?” and “The last shot is called ‘The Martini’ for a reason” and “Watch those eyelines.” Awesome. Viva la cinema. And viva la The Everyman.
