I was asked to join the beta team for an upgrade to Particle Illusion SE, one of the particle generators used on this film. The program has been mentioned on this blog before, in this post about using it to create a moonscape with storm clouds.

The beta is over and Particle Illusion SE 2.0.2 is now available. The Quick Load function is really keen, allowing you to rapidly scan through your emitter library. Currently Particle Illusion SE includes nearly 1000 emitters such as fire, smoke, explosions, water, and various mograph elements, so that new feature is certainly welcome.

Wondertouch, makers of Particle Illusion SE, also offer new emitters for free each month. On Jack the workflow has been rendering out QuickTimes which I then import into After Effects for compositing, generally with live-action footage. For a more in-depth look at the program, visit the Wondertouch site.
